“What my books have and why I think people have responded to them is that they’re about the terror, but they’re also about the fact that goodness and decency exists. I realise when I read older classical golden age crime novels that I like when they describe the world that they were living that they’re not trying to be make it so vague that it could be any place or anytime. There’s no doubt that location is a character, but so is the timing. “I want them to be timeless but at the same time I want them to be clearly centred in Quebec. But she’s also a writer who wants her own storytelling to be rooted in specific times and locations. Her love of the crime genre extends into the classical crime novels written by Michael Innes, for example. I think it gives us insight into human nature.” On the process of writing, Louise draws on her experience as a radio journalist at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
